Sports Injury

Executime Medicine Team Picture

Sports injuries is a general term describing damage to the body while engaging in physical activity. Usually, sports injuries are the result of overuse or trauma to a specific area. These areas can include the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones.

Injury can be caused by contusions (also known as bruises), fractures, sprains, strain, or dislocations. The most common sports injuries include:

  • Broken bones
  • Cartilage tears
  • Dislocation
  • Sprains and strains
  • Tendinitis
  • Concussion

These injuries can range from being minor and treatable at home to serious and requiring medical intervention. Some injuries can be treated conservatively with rest, ice, elevation, compression, and over-the-counter pain relievers. Other times, though, you may need physical therapy, surgery, or other treatment that can only be conducted by a healthcare professional. All injuries require an initial in-person visit and potentially follow-up appointments.

At the appointment, your provider will conduct a physical examination to assess the injury. They may order imaging tests to better see what happened to the body¹⋅².
